It's your future\. And you can make it happen at Cargill\. This position, Merchant Assistant, is part of the Cargill Ag Supply Chain \(CASC\) in North America\. As part of Cargill's global agricultural supply chain enterprise, the grain and oilseed group serves customers with a 1,500\-member team at more than 100 grain elevators and soybean crush plants across the U\.S\.



The Merchant Assistant role will be part of the East Region?s merchandising team and will be based out of our Lafayette, IN office; the purpose of this position is to create a positive customer experience while balancing the needs and challenges of the East Region of CASC North America while acting as a coordinator to link merchandising, origination, transportation and accounting\. The person in this role will be responsible for assisting the merchant with sales and purchases including entering and pricing contracts, creating load orders, aligning supply at our plant with customer purchases and general support functions to the merchants and logistics specialist\.



This position is a key point of contact with our carriers and a vital link to our customers\. The Merchant Assistant is also responsible for various projects and continuous process improvements as assigned\. This role will consist of a split between merchandising, logistics, and sales related activities\.



**Principal Accountabilities**



95% Merchant Support and Coordination





* Sales and Purchase contract management\. \(Enter, price edit, monitor, confirm and file contracts daily as needed, confirm with customers and communicate with merchants\)





* Ensure region is in compliance on contract management \(past due?s, unconfirmed contracts, advances, etc\.\)





* Scheduling/Logistics: Communicate with carriers and customers handling meal and grain scheduling/shipping responsibilities ensuring flawless execution\.





* Delivery Authorization: communicate both electronically and through mail the authorization of specific shipments or grain\. \(in conjunction with our merchants\)





* Freight: Enter and track truck and rail orders daily; inform merchants of changing freight issues and monitor past due freight





* Support the Logistics Coordinators to ensure we maintain carrier database with Motor Transportation Agreements and Insurance Certificates and any other necessary compliance documents\.





* Answer and make calls to customers; provide a positive customer experience\.





* Working closely with accounting to research and resolve any issues relating to contracts and/or payments\.





* Customer and carrier validation and/or set\-up in Accounting System; keeping records up to date\.





* Responsible for running daily reports, communicating information, and preparing daily position reports\.





* Manage region?s Market Guide files





* Maintaining/updating customer information in Salesforce





* Perform basic merchandising tasks support broader merchandising team as needed\.

**Qualifications**



**Required Qualifications**





* Associates degree in Business or related degree OR at least 2 years? experience in customer service and/or logistics related work\.





* Working experience with Microsoft Office and Salesforce\.



**Preferred Qualifications**





* Working knowledge in grain and soy crush operation platforms\.
