Cargill is in its infant stages of developing an IoT \(Internet of Things \) Platform to mature our ability to integrate, manage, monitor, and make use of IoT devices, either already deployed or yet to be deployed, inside Cargill\. The IoT Sr\. Infrastructure Engineer will provide engineering leadership \(strategic and fingers\-on\-keyboard\) to the IoT platfrom team\. This team is currently under construction, with this role being one of the first strategic roles for the team we are hiring\. This person will have the opportunity, to set the technical direction for this new platform\.

**Principal Accountabilities**

**60%: IoT Platform Engineering and Automation**

Lead the creation of IoT Platform services and features by employing modern software engineering practices and principles

Define technical requirements and specifications for IoT platforms \(connectivity, security, device management, embedded software, edge computing, cloud computing\)

Write, review and deploy open source code solutions for IoT device management, security, and connectivity in a complex global environment

Build high quality new solutions with zero\-touch deployment, self\-healing features, leveraging techniques like test driven development

Operate and build with the a secure by default mindset

Model a fail fast, iterative style of working

**25% Thought and Technical Leadership**

Lead architecture through development of device and connectivity architecture principles and patterns

Lead the creation and execution of strategies and patterns using software\-based approaches to management of IoT capabilities

Identify the target architecture that will address organizational use cases

Lead the selection and implementations of IoT solutions

Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers to set and influence technical decisions and policy

Lead the assessment and adoption of new technologies and methods within the team and across Cargill

Lead externally by contributing to the open source community in meaningful and visible ways

**15%: Coach, Mentor, and Partner**

Partner with enterprise IT teams \(security, infrastructure, data, and cloud\) on usage and adoption of software based approaches to network/infrastructure as code and automation best\-practices

Demonstrate your work to the broader Cargill community through Public Demos and in small group or individual coaching sessions

Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the broader I/T engineering community

Engage effectively with teams across the org to develop clear biz objectives for IoT solutions and ensure they integrate well with existing platforms

Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience\.

7 to 10 years experience in IT

Deep experience with Internet of Things device management, configuration, or connectivity at scale

Experience in IoT security \- hardware, operating systems, software, and connectivity

Experience with IoT Management platforms \(Amazon IoT, Microsoft??, Google?, or others\)

Experience with a variety of networking protocols - Wifi, 5g, LoRA, BLE, etc\.

Experience with automation, infrastructure as code, automated application deployment, monitoring/telemetry, logging, reporting/dashboarding

Experience with continuous integration and deployment technologies such as: Jenkins CI, Drone, Github, and Artifactory

Experience with container technologies such as: Docker, Kubernetes

Experience with test\-driven development frameworks for application and infrastructure code

Ability to use code to self\-document requirements of the stack

Ability to create clear and detailed technical diagrams and documentation

Experience with cloud\-based 'infrastructure as a service platforms' such as: AWS, Google Compute Engine, Azure, or OpenStack

Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as: Chef, Puppet, Salt, Ansible, and Terraform

Experience with development using GitHub and/or VSTS

Experience using and contributing to open source projects

Experience with Linux and/or Windows systems administration

Experience with measurement and telemetry for infra, application, logging, APM, and UX

Experience with an agile mindset
